EMERGENCIES IN HARVEY CEDARS

WHAT TO DO AND ANSWERS TO OTHER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Many people have asked about the sirens they hear. What do theses sirens mean?

Two types of sirens sound in Harvey Cedars. The Fire Siren sounds once at noon and if there is a fire call it will sound three times to alert the fire company to respond.

The Nuclear Power Plant Siren is a very low sounding siren and sounds continually for a full three minutes. This alerts people to tune to local radio and television to find out emergency information about what may be going on at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. See the tab “Oyster Creek” for the latest brochure.

There is no siren that sounds for any type of evacuation or weather emergency. Listen to local radio or television to keep up on impending weather and storms. Any evacuation information will be broadcast on theses stations. You can also tune your radio to 1650 AM “Long Beach Island Information Radio” All phones in the Borough will be notified by a phone messaging system called “NIXLE”. Anyone can add cell phones or other phones outside the Borough to this system by clicking on the NIXLE banner at www.hcpolice.org or www.harveycedars.org
