Chief Burnaford was born on June 6, 1982 in Long Branch, NJ. He grew up in Shrewsbury, New Jersey and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 2000. He attended The University of Rhode Island and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2004. He began his career in Harvey Cedars as a Police Records Clerk from 2005-2006. In May of 2006, Chief Burnaford graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy. He served as a patrolman from 2006-2010 before becoming the department’s Detective. He served this position from 2010 until he was promoted to Chief of Police in March of 2016. He currently serves as a Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, a position he has held since 2007. Over his career, he has been responsible for much of the department’s community outreach, social media, investigations and property & evidence collection/processing and accreditation. He has also been involved in maintaining the Borough’s Emergency Operations Plan, assisting with internal investigations along with being the liaison to the beach patrol. He is a member of the Ocean County Police Chiefs Association, the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
